I like to think of myself as a pretty good guy. I still love the music scene here in SLC and whatever surrounding areas I can get to. Because of that, if you have flyers for shows, send them my way.

Also, I get contacted probably once a week at least at this point by out of state bands looking for shows. While it is nice that I can send them to someone's facebook account, it might be better if I sent them to your e-mail so that they can hopefully get a show. I know jack shit about putting on shows and I don't want to go that route. So basically, if you book shows, I'd like your flyers and maybe your e-mail to give to some bands from time to time. Thanks.

I think this may have been the release of theirs that was supposed to come out on Life Sentence Records. Climb was around for a good part of the 90s and put out a cd, a 2 song demo and this. Enjoy.

This was my first taste of local music, having heard this back in about 92 or 93. My favorite stuff on this is the Victim's Willing stuff but Slaughterchrist(later Novagenus) was good too. It's a mixed bag, there's a lot of different stuff on here but it's a good show of what SLC was about in the beginning of the 90s.

I found this old gem over at Up The Fuckin' Punx, which is a really good punk/oi!/hardcore blog and has a lot of SLC stuff on it too. You should probably check it out.

A long time ago, SLUG(Salt Lake UnderGround) used to be a monthly publication that was very enjoyable to read. You could read a lot about hardcore shows, comic books and other awesome stuff. Nowadays, it's a very pale imitation of what it once was but it's still free. If you like beer reviews or where to snowboard, then it's right up your alley. Those happen to be things that aren't up mine. Still, I do pick it up from time to time hoping for something worth reading.

A few years back, when they celebrated their anniversary, they put on quite the show, a real showcase of old hardcore and punk that they got to reunite for the night, featuring such locals as The Corleones, The Stench, Clear and Iceburn. While I didn't put up any video from the dvd, the dvd does come with a cd of songs from the show. I wasn't able(allowed) to attend this. It's a cool dvd that you can get from their website and maybe a few places around town.

One thing I have thought about a lot has been doing requests for the music of non-Utah bands. While I have dedicated this blog primarily to the local stuff, there's a lot of bands that people ask me for that they can't find. So I'm willing to throw up some things here and there to help out if you can't find it. Just e-mail or leave a comment. I have a very extensive music library.

So this was something that I was asked about this week when I was on my way to the Bracewar show. No, they didn't play but I'll bitch about that another time. Sevin is good early 90's vegan/hardline and I think they are from New Jersey. I don't know anything about these guys. I do know they also had a song for the "Stones To Mark A Fire" compilation also. This 7" came out in the early 90's and was to benefit the Utah Pro-Choice Coalition. It features Utah bands NSC and Anger Overload, also featuring Heroin and Born Against. Pretty Awesome record, maybe not if you are pro-life. Anger Overload was always a favorite when I was younger and had started going to shows.

When I was still in high school, I was introduced to hardcore. Sure, punk rock is kinda similar and, in small doses, got me through junior high. When I reached my senior year of high school, a lot of the local bands I had heard I was finally getting to see. It's such an incredible feeling to see bands live, especially then when I had never been to a show before. Probably the band that we all really liked the most around the end of my senior year was Suspension Of Disbelief.

I remember them playing the holiday show to benefit the homeless every December. Awesome shows in the basement of DV8. Shows at Playschool.

Eventually they just stopped. The newer SLC bands of the time, like Clear and Lifeless, became more the sound and feeling that Salt Lake would be more known for. Basically, the hardcore scene became the straightedge scene. Not a bad thing, but it just seemed like the kids who weren't straightedge just didn't go to the shows anymore really. It was a shame because back in the early 90's, you never had to worry about how many people were going to be at a show. Suspension Of Disbelief really packed them in too.

This came out as a CD-R, if I am correct and had the songs from the 'On Dead Tracks' demo and the 2 Side By Side covers they did for a Utah re-imagining of the old New York Hardcore compilation that Revelation Records put out. Awesome show.

It's sad to say that was probably the first hardcore show I've been to in quite a few months. The Basement is a good venue for hardcore shows in Ogden, although it could use a better PA system but hey, it's still better than nothing. Great job to everyone involved in putting that on and keep an eye out for more shows up there. City To City was great and to continually see how they crowd reacts at their very few performances, it's a shame to see them go. Great sets from Reviver, Right On Track and One Clean Life. I missed a bit of Right On Track but caught enough to still enjoy them. Same with Reviver. I wasn't really into Caulfield and they need to figure out how to play tighter and maybe with better levels on their equipment. Well, I probably still wouldn't be into them.
